Mao Dien Temple of Literature in Haiduong

Mao Dien Temple of Literature is one of the few temples of literature that still exists in Vietnam. Nguyen was established to organize the Huong exam of the old town of Hai Duong, but in the Mac dynasty, four times organized the university exam. Mao Dien Temple of Literature is located in Mau Tai village, Cam Dien commune, Cam Giang district, Hai Duong province; right next to the national highway No. 5 from Hanoi to Hai Phong, 15 km from Hai Duong city to the west. In the North of Vietnam, Mao Dien Temple of Literature has the second largest scale and history, only after the Temple of Literature (Hanoi). Mao Dien Temple of Literature was decided by the Prime Minister to be recognized as a special national relic in December 2017.

It was built in the early Le Dynasty (XV century). This is a historical relic worshiping Confucius and honoring the great Confucian scholars who represent the cultural tradition. This place has trained thousands of bachelors and doctors of Confucianism, ranked among the top in the country. If only counting the number of people who passed the university in 185 exams (from 1075 to 1919), there were 2,898 doctors in the whole country, then there were 637 doctors in Hai Duong town, 12 out of 46 Trang Nguyen and Hai Duong. Especially, Hai Duong also has “Doctor of the East” in Mo Trach village, Tan Hong commune, Binh Giang district. There are 39 Confucian doctors studying through historical periods.

Today, the Temple of Literature not only worships Confucius, but also worships 8 more professors representing various fields and eras (of which 7 are Hai Duong people): Teacher Chu Van An, Binational Trang Nguyen Mac Dinh Chi (Tran Dynasty, XIII-XIV centuries), World cultural celebrity, National hero Nguyen Trai (Le So dynasty, 15th century), Trinh Quoc Nguyen Binh Khiem (Mac dynasty, 16th century) ), the great physician, Zen master Tue Tinh, Introductory practice control Pham Su Menh (Tran Dynasty, XIII-XIV centuries), God of Math Vu Huu (Le So Dynasty, 15th century) and Nghi Ai Quan, Doctor Nguyen. Thi Due (Mac dynasty, 16th century).
